Tending the vineyards planted by his grandfather, Claudio Ancarani is now at the helm of this small winery located in Torre dell?Oriolo on the soft rolling hills that turn into the mountains of theTuscan-Emilian Appennines near the town of Faenza. The estate comprises 10 hectares of vines. Claudio is proudly championing the re-discovery of the local indigenous varietals: Centesimino, Uva Longanesi, Famoso and Albana. The Centesimino grape, named after the person who rescued if from philloxera during the sixties, was recognized as a unique varietal in 2003 and is now turned into wine by only 8 producers of the area. The Centesimino has unique characteristics: it reaches high alcohol levels and its color is intensely dark with violet nuances. Very floral and aromatic (roses, blueberry, pomegranate), it is dry and persistent on the palate with a good tannic structure. Claudio applies natural vineyard management promoting biodiversity in his land, no herbicides and only copper and sulfur. He believes in winemaking with minimal intervention, he uses ndigenous yeast, no new oak and adds close to zero sulfites.
