This is a wine from The Jura region of France. Traditionally they may be aged oxidatively and be somewhat funky. It is an intentional style not a wine flaw.
The Arbois Les Résistants is a 100% Savagnin made from grapes donated by a few winegrower friends who were a little less affected than Ganevat by the 2017 frost, and who agreed to give him enough to produce at least one Chardonnay and one Savagnin cuvée. The result is a mineral, lively and powerful wine. The grapes come from a wide variety of terroirs of blue and grey marl, schist and clay-limestone.
The grapes benefited from a superb summer, bright but not too hot, allowing them to ripen slowly and thus preserve impeccable balance. This ouillé Savagnin went through a long maturation, for a total of 3 years.
It reveals itself today with an uncommon intensity, full of a pure and gushing fruitiness: pear, white peach, guava and even a touch of passion fruit. The expression of the soils is revealed in the smoky dimension of the nose but also in the spicy evocations of grey pepper and dried chili. Frosted lemon, fresh walnut and verbena complete an expressive and layered bouquet.
A beautiful complexity that we find in the mouth, where the fruity flavors are always in movement, crossed by a peppery mineral tension. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without the addition of SO2.
