An intense, elegant, and well-balanced Brunello. Ruby red with slight garnet reflections. On the nose, it stands out for its sweet and fruity aroma with notes of plum, ripe cherry, and small red fruits, perfectly balanced with hints of licorice and pipe tobacco. Soft, polished tannins are well integrated with a marked acidity that gives this Brunello a lively and powerful structure. A wine with excellent persistence and great aging potential.
100% Sangiovese, 80% in 60 and 90 hl French oak casks and 20% in 350 l French oak barriques for at least 2 years.
Our Banfi Brunello di Montalcino is a culmination of over three decades of Castello Banfi ’s pioneering research on the clones of Sangiovese; with the goal of producing a more outstanding quality Brunello. A meticulous grape selection is followed by vinification with skin contact for 10-12 days. Released in the 5th year after harvest, the wine is aged for a minimum of 4 years, including 2 years in oak barrels of various sizes, mainly French oak barriques, and partly in Slavonian oak casks.
Solid, showing dusty spices, dried citrus and an earthy, savory undertone. Traditional in style, with tight tannins and a nice grilled-orange character. Very well-balanced, supple and composed.
Supporting good concentration and volume, the Castello Banfi 2021 Brunello di Montalcino checks all the boxes for the vintage, reflecting careful blending and cellar precision in a warm year. There is richness and freshness, with layers of plum, blackcurrant and sweet spice. The tannins are well managed. The wine delivers exactly what is expected without pushing beyond its stylistic boundaries. This is a fine choice for near- to mid-term drinking, and like many new releases in this portfolio, it shows a high level of alcohol at 15.5%. Production totals 490,000 bottles. Anticipated Maturity: 2026-2039
The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino is darkly floral and dusty, offering a delicate blend of black cherries, minty herbs, worn leather and spice. It sweeps across the palate with silken textures and racy red and black fruits as fine-grained tannins saturate toward the close. Structured and long, it leaves a youthful tension on the palate that puckers the cheeks as nuances of ground clove fade.
