The Brewer-Clifton Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills opens with aromas of pomegranate, white tea, and raspberry. The palate reveals flavors of dried fig, white truffle, and ripe Cherry with textures of rooibos tea, and savory.
With the goal of expressing a comprehensive expression of the appellation, we selected four unique vineyard sites to create this Sta. Rita Hills bottling. This blend is comprised of 3D, Machado, Hapgood and Perilune vineyards. While each lot is handled separately and in a completely uniform fashion in the winery, each contributes vastly different expressions which ultimately harmonize in the finished wine.
Only neutral barrels are employed. We strive for whole cluster fermentation. We farm with a focus of ripening the stems alongside the fruit, allowing the cluster to be in harmony. Working with the stems allows for wines that are structured, earthy and balanced with our beautiful SRH fruit.
The presence of approximately 90% stems is clear on the nose and palate, the resulting grip making for an impressively structured appellation cuvee. Yet the fruit is juicy with cherries, cherry pits, tealike tannins and aromatic woodsy spices with rose hips and juniper, all singing through the midpalate and finish.
This appellation cuvée is always a solid bet for experiencing a healthy dose of Greg Brewer's unique style. Strawberry, bay leaf and eucalyptus grove aromas lead from the zesty nose into a palate of tart raspberry, orange peel and more eucalyptus flavors. -M.K.
As with the Chardonnay iteration, the 2023 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills encapsulates the region, house and vintage with admirable precision and crystal clarity. Red-fruited, herbal and crushed stone aromas introduce a lifted yet saturated palate, concluding with a similarly vibrant and pleasantly savory finish that lingers with marine nuances. Anticipated Maturity: 2025-2031
