Castello Di Meleto Description

Amber yellow in color it has typical hints of dried fruit, honey, apricot, with notes of vanilla and spices. It has a full and velvety taste and is a wine of great structure and roundness. The long persistent finish maintains a pleasant note of acidity.

The name “ Meleto in Chianti ” is mentioned for the first time in 1256 in  the Book of Surveys  of the Florentine Guelphs, as the property of a local feudal family. Thanks to its position, near the border between the territories of the Republics of Florence and Siena, the castle first became the main Florentine bulwark in the area and later one of the main fortifications in  the Terziere di Gaiole  of the Chianti League. This made the castle a coveted prize between the two contenders, even if it never suffered serious destruction.

Among the many stories that the walls of Meleto have witnessed, the most curious and significant is undoubtedly the establishment of the Viticola Toscana company , born in the late 1960s with the aim of enhancing the wine-growing vocation of the area. Indeed, starting from 1966, Italian agriculture experienced a period of great turmoil with the entry into force of the "Green Plan" and the fall of customs barriers in the Common Market, events which in two years brought back over one hundred thousand workers to the land.
