The Chateau Clerc Milon 2016 has a very deep, almost black color with a glittering hue. The refined and elegant nose reveals intense ripe fruit aromas, mingled with liquorice and pepper notes. An ample and precise attack ushers in a dense and creamy mouthfeel which offers a generous and well-balanced range of flavors. The mid-palate coats the mouth with blackberry and bilberry flavors, revealing fine tannins and expressive, spicy oak. Long and lofty, full and rich, the finish unfurls on chocolate notes.
55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot, 1% Carmenere
One of Chateau Clerc Milon’s distinctive features is its blend, which combines five typical Bordeaux grape varieties in a true reflection of its vineyard: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Carmenere. Each variety’s contribution is essential but must be in the right proportions to express the best of the estate, vintage after vintage.
Cabernet Sauvignon brings structure and complex aromas and flavours as well as great ageing potential. Cabernet Franc brings freshness. Its proportion is another distinguishing feature of the wine. Merlot complements the Cabernets with its full and smooth character as well as its velvety mouthfeel. The rich and complex array of aromas and flavours is set off by the spice notes of Petit Verdot. Carmenere gives the best of itself, bringing subtle notes of wilted rose petals and violet. Making up a small proportion of the blend, it is an essential part of Château Clerc Milon.
Dark and concentrated, this wine offers depth and intensity. It has great ripeness as well as fine tannins that are integrated into the fruit. It is so juicy and exuberant that it's hard to remember the tannins that will allow the wine to age. Drink from 2023. Editors' Choice -R.V.
The Cabernet Franc was fantastic this year, so it was all used in the grand vin. The final blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Carménère. Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Clerc Milon leaps from the glass with beautiful scents of chocolate-covered cherries, plum preserves and crushed blackcurrants with suggestions of lilacs, cardamom, underbrush and unsmoked cigars. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a firm frame of finely grained tannins and seamless freshness lifting the perfumed fruit to a nice long finish. Anticipated Maturity: 2021-2044
