Chateau Gloria Description

55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot aged for 14 months in casks, an average of 40% of which are replaced. 45% of new barrels.

Exceptional and unique estate created by Henri Martin, this vineyard was indeed gradually put together pieceby-piece thanks to the purchase of several plots from mainly classified Growths in 1855. Today, the origin of the terroirs, the care given during the growing and the vinification explain the quality of this wine that is now famous worldwide.

Vinous: 96 Points

The 2019 Gloria has a compelling nose: black fruit, crushed rocks, tobacco and very subtle marine scents that are all beautifully combined. Perhaps the most precise and delineated nose among an impressive array of Saint-Julien's this year. The palate is medium-bodied with a lively opening. A touch of soy infuses the black fruit; fine-boned with wonderful sapidity on the finish. Extraordinary length. Serious. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.

James Suckling: 95 Points

This is a plush wine that keeps excellent freshness. Subtle cocoa powder and chili chocolate to the ripe currants, berries and graphite. The tannins are quite polished on its full-bodied palate. Structured and quite long. 55% cabernet sauvignon, 34% merlot, 6% cabernet franc and 5% petit verdot.

Wine Advocate: 93+ Points

The 2019 Gloria has turned out very well, delivering aromas of blackcurrants, plums, burning embers and a deft framing of creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, deep and nicely concentrated, with a vibrant core of ripe and fleshy fruit, lively acids and powdery structuring tannins that assert themselves on the youthfully firm finish, this shows considerable promise. Anticipated Maturity: 2027-2060
