Malolactic fermentation is always blocked to preserve freshness. Raised in stainless steel tank for 6 months before bottling.
Le Vieux Donjon practices organic farming without the fancy certificates. Aka, ‘Reasonable Farming.’ They will perform green harvest and pruning as needed, and is usually one of the last to start harvesting their red grapes. A manual harvest is performed using buckets and small clippers. Sorting happens in the field in medium-sized plastic bins located on the tractor. The team of harvesters is made of approximately 20 people each year.
A tank-aged blend of Clairette and Roussanne, the 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc is medium to full-bodied, with a plump, appealing texture and modest flavors of pear and pineapple. It's a delicious, easy-drinking white Rhône to drink over the next few years, seemingly without the gravitas of some other recent vintages.
