The malolactic fermentation occurred in French oak barriques of 225 – 228 lt. and in tonneaux of 600lt. 24 months of ageing in bottles follow before the wine release. 100% Sangiovese Practicing Organic/Biodynamic
The Val d’Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004, encircles the Podere Forte. The estate was founded in 1997 by Pasquale Forte, a visionary entrepreneur who has created a balanced system where every element complements the others, following the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture. The old concept of the corte romana has been recreated on the 500 ha estate: a place where people, plants and animals coexist in harmony and sustainable self-sufficiency. A celebration of biodiversity.
I tasted bottle number 417 of only 949 produced. The 2014 Orcia Petrucci (made with organically farmed fruit) offers a generous and full succession of fruit flavors such as ripe cherry, forest fruit and dark plum. These flavors wrap softly over the palate and hint at more ripeness that was easily achieved despite the cool vintage. As the wine settles in the glass, it begins to show darker tones of tar, smoke and moist potting soil. That snappy acidity kicks in at the close, to leave the palate refreshed. The only unanswered question is why is the price tag so high, but I assume it is because quantities are so low. Anticipated Maturity: 2019-2028
