Saracosa is a full-bodied red wine that offers flavors of deep, dark berries accented by spice and vanilla. Smooth and mouthfilling, it has fine tannins and a long finish.
Winemaker Sofia Barbanera recommends pairing it with local delicacies like pasta with boar ragu or grilled lamb seasoned with rosemary and garlic, but we think it'd be delicious with any more robust meat dish you plan to serve.
Saracosa is a rich blend of Sangiovese and Merlot. Half of the Barbanera's vineyards are in the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG, while the remainder sit just beyond. The family has worked this land since the early 1940s, which means most of their holdings are now old vines that deliver exceptional concentration.
This wine was inspired by the Super Tuscan style—a mix of Italy’s native grape varieties and international stars—developed by the renowned Piero Antinori in the 1970s. The category kickstarted the region’s renaissance and was once one of the most popular styles worldwide.
