Chilean red wines tend to display a distinctive, "green" earth character and the Carmenere grape has a way of accentuating that quality. When done well (as of course is the case here) that earth expression is wrapped up inside a coating of dark fruits and robust structural constraints which result in a wine of intensity and equilibrium.

 Trotamundos is a project of winemakers Cesar Baeza and Miguel Besoain who seek out the best varietal-to-terroir matches in Chile and translate that fruit into wine with minimal intervention. That care comes across in this assertive, muscular wine whose boysenberry and black cherry fruits usher in cedar and newly tilled garden soil notes on the way to a satisfying finish. Insert Trotamundos where you might use a good Bordeaux or Cabernet and enjoy a Chilean change of pace.
