The textbook definition of Malbec in a very good vintage. Bright violet in color, this wine is fresh and floral, featuring blackberry, plumbs, and violets on the nose and palate. The wine is soft and round with a noticeable minerality, silky tannin’s mark a lengthy finish. Low yields, careful vineyard management and low intervention winemaking are the hallmark of this and all other Achaval Ferrer wines.
Lots of primary fruit here, showing dark plums, cherries and a touch of violets and dark chocolate. Fresh, fruit-oriented and very balanced, with juicy, fine-grained tannins and a plump finish.
Made with grapes from Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley, the 2022 Malbec Mendoza revives the plush Malbec profile that gained popularity in the U.S. market in the 2000s, now with added intensity and concentration from the vintage. It offers a rich fruit blend, from ripe plum to blackberry, with a subtle hint of oak and fine tannins on the finish. This is well crafted and enjoyable.
The fruit-forward nose leans toward ripe plums. It has an earthy palate, exhibiting rosemary, dried cherries and prune. -J.V.
