The Best's Great Western Bin No. 1 Shiraz pours a brooding deep red color. Notes of pepper, oak, liquorice, deep red fruits with a slight herbaceous stalky character fill the nose. The mouth reveals deep earthy and dark fruits, a long palate that is tight along the sides with the slightest hint of savoury herbs. While its young, it will benefit from decanting.

This vibrant wine is great to enjoy now with food but will soften and gain complexity over the next 5-10 years. Ideal to drink with a meat lovers pizza with added capsicum and mushrooms.

Best's Description

Best’s Great Western as a Shiraz ‘house’ has gathered experience with the variety through the legacy of Best’s long winemaking history dating back to the 1860’s. Bin 1 Shiraz is the wine that often gives people an introduction to the regional style of Great Western Shiraz.

Made predominantly from Best’s own vineyards, Bin 1 Shiraz represents the essence of Best’s winemaking ideals and the uniqueness of the Great Western region.

Bin 1 is a classic, cool climate, aromatic Shiraz, made in a style that is perfumed, spicy and peppery, yet well balanced. It’s a great match with food - particularly dishes like spring lamb.

Wine Advocate: 91 Points

A routinely impressive estate from all kinds of angles, Best's in the Great Western region of Victoria continually produces brilliant value for money wines, and this 2020 Great Western Shiraz Bin No 1 is a fine example of that reputation. It is reductive upon opening but peels off to reveal a silky bed of red and purple fruits in the mouth, with blackberry, licorice, raspberry and nori. The shape of the tannins in the mouth tend toward ductile and pliable, rather than firm or soft and show a wonderful flexibility as the wine moves around the mouth. Super smart, value drinking here. Circa $25AUD. Anticipated Maturity: 2023-2035
