The fruit is exuberant with a very pleasurable sour cherry taste, merged with hints of chocolate and sweet spices. The subtlety enhances the floral component of the purple rose. Balsamic notes emerge with increasing conviction, along with hints of star anise and wild gooseberry.
The wine finds its utmost expression at the table with seasoned cheeses, well-cooked meats, braised dishes and game.
A blend of Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella. Vinification begins with 4 months of “Appassimento” in boxes, followed by maceration in steel with prolonged contact with the skins. aged for 24 months in barriques, 12 months in steel, and 24 months in bottle before release.
Ca’ dei Frati was founded in 1939 when patriarch Felice Dal Cero settled in Sirmione (Brescia province) on the Lombardy region side of the Lugana appellation. It’s called Ca’ dei Frati or “friar house,” because it was once owned by monks who grew grapes there.
A prominent dried-herb note colors the dried berries on the nose, but on the palate the sweet fruit comes through with full force, accompanied by firm, chewy tannins. Showing good length. This needs time in bottle to mould its true character. All the elements are there for a very fine Amarone with great aging potential. One for the long-term cellar or try from 2025.
