Enchanting aromas of red and black berries come out in the nose, heightened by spicy undertones. The bouquet stands out for its fresh and pure character. In the mouth, the attack is fresh, with pleasant acidity delivering a tinge of menthol. The wine gradually grows in intensity as the palate reveals the fruity aromas, the tannins and the distinctive personality fashioned through maturation. The palate is equally dynamic and soft, carried by beautiful and well matured tannins. This Château Kirwan is very elegant, a remarkable illustration of the Margaux appellation, showing a juicy and aromatic finale. A true delicacy.
The estate owes its name to the Irishman Mark Kirwan, descending from a long line of merchants who arrived in Bordeaux in the XVIII century.
In 1926, Château Kirwan came into the hands of the Schÿler family. Settled in Bordeaux in 1739, they have managed the oldest family-run wine merchant house ever since. With the help of oenologist and agronomist Philippe Delfaut, appointed Managing Director in 2007, they launched a major investment programme.
Today, these efforts have paid off with precise, distinctive wines that faithfully reflect the terroir of Château Kirwan.
This full, fruity wine is packed with acidity as well as ripeness. It has a fresh black-currant character, and the structure underneath is strong. It will develop relatively quickly, but then could hold at its peak for many years. -R.V.
Deep garnet colored, the 2010 Kirwan gives up notions of fried herbs, crème de cassis and blackberry pie with hints of mossy tree bark, lavender and oolong tea. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is a tad tart with chewy tannins, while lacking just slightly in the middle and on the finish. Drink 2020-2035
