Roasted red meats go marvellously well with the subtle perfume and delicate tannins of this easygoing wine. Poultry, roast or fricasséed, and rabbit echo its aromatic delicacy, while soft-centred cheeses of the Camembert type are enhanced by its aromas of small red fruits.
100% Pinot Noir sourced from 0.67 ha of vines planted in 1979 (65%), 1989 (20%) and 2001 (15%).
100% de-stemmed, 2-week fermentation and maceration in tank. Aged for 10 months: 80% in tank, 20% in oak barrels (half new, half 2-4 years old).
Domaine Christophe Lepage consists of only 6.2 acres, planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris. The slopes, facing south/southeast overlook the valley of the Yonne and the town of Joigny. They are protected from the north by a forested plateau and the river below moderates the micro-climate, providing some insurance against frost. The subsoils are chalky, dating from the Upper Cretacious era, and are covered with flinty clay.
