Cultivated on the estate’s most exceptional soils, Clos Dubreuil reveals a distinctive personality around an astoundingly complex aromatic palette. On the palate, individual aromas of black cherry, blackberry, and raspberry present themselves in an exact fashion. The grapes that craft Clos Dubreuil thrive on the estate’s plateau, resulting in lovely freshness and acidity. It is a wine with great cellaring potential; after a decade, it should reveal notes of truffle that will delight the tastebuds.
70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in oak barrels, 60% new, 40% used, for about 18 months before bottling.
The 2014 Clos Dubreuil offers opulent strawberry, kirsch, white pepper and bacon fat aromas on the nose. It feels rather heady, although it just about maintains adequate delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, plenty of red berry fruit suffused with game and soy. It leads to a very harmonious finish that is knitted together by oak tannins at the moment, though there is sufficient fruit to integrate all that wood with four to five years in bottle. Give this time and you will have a very fine Saint Emilion.
