Bright red berry and cranberry tones mingle with subtle green accents and brisk, tart acidity. Dried herbs and a touch of smoke introduce a savory edge, while a lean frame carries mineral nuances of crushed stone.
This Beaujolais Nouveau comes from the hamlet of Saint-Jean d’Ardières, just outside of Morgon, where the terroir turns from granite to clay and limestone. It shows gorgeous purity and lift that comes from the organically farmed old-vine Gamay. The beautiful terroir shines through with clear definition and racy floral deliciousness.
Domaine des Marrans was founded in 1970 in the village of Fleurie, in the northern-most section of Beaujolais. Today, the owner and winemaker is the young and talented Mathieu Mélinand, who joined the family domaine in 2008. With old vines and some of the top sites in all of Beaujolais, Mathieu is growing some of the most pristine Gamay we know. His Beaujolais Nouveau comes from the hamlet of Saint-Jean d’Ardières, just outside of Morgon, where the terroir turns from granite to clay and limestone. Harvest is done exclusively by hand, using small crates to minimize oxidation. In the cellar, vinification is proudly old school; with a semicarbonic maceration of whole clusters, indigenous yeast, and the use of cement for the ageing. The Nouveau made at this humble family- owned estate shows gorgeous purity and lift that comes from the old-vine Gamay they organically farm. Their beautiful terroir always shines through with clear definition and racy floral deliciousness.
