Domaine Du Colombier Description
This medium-bodied Crozes-Hermitage Rouge derives from vines that are nearly 35 years of age. The palate is fresh with dark fruit, yet earthy and charmingly rustic in nature. Notes of spice and graphite emerge, compliments of its aging habitat—a combination of cement and barrel.
Domaine du Colombier’s 44 acres of vineyards are farmed organically without the certification and located in the municipalities of Tain l'Hermitage and Mercurol. The grapes for Crozes-Hermitage Rouge derive from different plots of vines which were planted by Florent's and David's father. They are situated 492 feet above sea level in close proximity to the Rhône River, planted in a high density (6,500 to 7,000 feet per hectare) and trellised on échalas (bean poles). The vines average more than 30 years old and are set in sandy-slimy, clay soils that are abundant in pebbles.
100% Syrah. Grapes were vinified for 24 days with pumpovers occurring twice each day. Seventy percent of the wine was aged in demi-muid 600L barrels (20% new oak) while 30% is matured in inox tanks over the course of 14 months prior to blending and bottling.
