The Lopez de Heredia Vina Tondonia Rioja Reserva appears a vibrant red color leading slightly towards amber in the glass. The nose leads with a light fresh texture with notes of vanilla and dried berry aromas. The palate is rich, very dry, smooth, developed. Firm tannins and good balance.

Goes well with all meat dishes however prepared. A perfect partner to a Leg of New Season Welsh Lamb stuffed with wild garlic, rosemary and anchovies.

Lopez de Heredia Description

A blend of Tempranillo (75%), Garnacho (15%), Graciano and Mazuelo (10%), all from our own vineyards. Aged for 6 years, racked twice a year and fined with fresh egg whites.

Between 1913 and 1914, Rafael López de Heredia y Landeta founded Viña Tondonia, which was to become the bodega´s most famous product. Viña Tondonia is a beautiful vineyard of over 100 hectares, situated on the right bank of the river Ebro, where the most typical Rioja wines are grown.

The Tondonia vineyard, of López de Heredia is the most spectacular in Haro. Situated in a shell - like depression in the terrain, alongside the Ebro river which borders the Basque Rioja, it makes up a landscape of alluvium, limestone and poplars.

Wine Advocate: 95 Points

The 2012 Viña Tondonia Reserva comes from a very dry year, with 25% less rain than the average (at the time), resulting in lower yields of very healthy grapes that delivered wines with nice balance between alcohol and polyphenols, making it very apt for the aging in barrel. It had a slightly longer élevage in barrel, six years. The wine is aromatic with a developed profile, spicy and tertiary (forest floor, a touch of brick dust and iodine), complex and nuanced. The palate is full and round, with polished tannins and a long, dry finish. It has a textbook Tondonia nose and profile. 250,000 bottles produced. Anticipated Maturity: 2025-2035
