A tawny wine with fine, well-developed tertiary aromas, already boasting a superb hint of vanilla and hints of spices such as nutmeg and pepper. On the palate, all these qualities are confirmed, along with a powerful retronasal attack and a very long finish.
Alcoholic fermentation interrupted by the addition of brandy, batch aged in wood for approximately 30 years until bottling.
The NV 30 Years Tawny Port was bottled in 2017 with 123 grams per liter of residual sugar and a bar-top cork. This is laced with a little brandy, but the overlay is mostly dried caramel. It is round and rather harmonious but still able to tighten on the finish after seeming a bit flat on opening. It does have a lively feel to it as it finishes, to go with its broad flavors. It is not the most focused 30-year Porto, but it coats the palate nicely. As always, these last indefinitely, barring cork failures. They are not really meant to be held, but they can be.
