Deep brick red in color, the nose is ripe with aromas of fig and plum, cherries, and cassis. On the palate, rich cheery liqueur and chocolate and accented by hints of cinnamon. Balanced with very smooth tannins and full body, the complex aromas and flavors linger with persistence.
Highly recommended with red meats, Mongolian beef, spaghetti with Bolognese sauce, or lambchops with Cabernet and mushroom sauce.
This Carmenère is sourced from Montes' Finca Apalta Estate vineyard with some additions from their Marchigüe Estate vineyard. These two unique vineyards feature granite-rich soils in differing degrees of decomposition. Both have considerable variation in the clay content, depth, and organic matter from the influence of erosion and deposits from local rivers over time. The soils are generally deep in the flat areas and thinner at the foot of the mountains and at higher elevations. Carmenère is planted in deep, rich soils, with moderate water retention.
90% Carmenère, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, 50% new.
A well-balanced carmenere showing plenty of ripe fruit as well as spices and a hint of tobacco. Eclectic style. Tannins are fine-grained on the medium- to full-bodied palate with generous, flattering fruit. Marchigue and Apalta
