The Montes Alpha Carmenere has a deep carmine-red color. The intense nose offers pleasing notes of ripe black and red fruits such as blackberries, figs, and dried plums. Spicy notes of nutmeg and black pepper lie over a back of tobacco and leather with a subtle balsamic aroma that envelops aromas of pastry and dark chocolate. The palate is well balanced, lush, and structured, while soft tannins lend the wine a sweet sensation that opens way to a long and very elegant finish.
Highly recommended with red meats, Mongolian beef, pork chops, spaghetti Bolognese, lamb chops, or mushroom ravioli.
90% Carmenère, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 12 months in French oak barrels; 50% new.
The vineyards that produce our Montes Alpha Carmenère are located in two very important zones of the Colchagua Valley—Apalta and Marchigüe. Apalta's soils are diverse, with some areas strongly influenced by the nearby Tinguiririca River and others by rainwater and material eroded from the mountain above. Marchigüe is flatter with gentler hills. The Carmenère vineyards are located in the lower areas, that are deep and have high moisture retention.
Notes of peppercorn and aromatic herbs shape the nose, leading to a rich mix of wood spice, blackberries and blueberries on the full-bodied palate. Fresh, savory, and with a touch of rosemary, this type of Carménère is hard to find at this price point. Best Buy -J.V.
