The Bodegas Protos Ribera del Duero Crianza appears a cherry color with purple rim in the glass indicating youth. The nose reveals high aromatic intensity, with aroma of ripe fruits well assembled with wood that brings aromas of sweet spices and pleasant toasted notes. It is an enveloping wine, tasty, balanced, with finesse and pleasant maturity. End of mouth with memories of ripe fruit.
Pair with roasted vegetables and meats, carpaccio, fabada, Iberian ham.
100% Tinta del país (Tempranillo). Coupage of different parcels from Burgos and Valladolid vineyards. Planted between 30 and 35 years ago.
Aged for 12 months in French and American barrels. 33% new French barrels, 34% one year old French and American barrels, 33% two year old French and American oak barrels. 12 months in bottle.
A perfume of lavender and violets is framed by dark berries and present, but not overpowering, vanilla notes. The palate is juicy, with noticeable tannins; though most notable is the segue from nose to palate, for the two exist as harmonious counterparts. Surely, there is still room to grow here, however, an underlying delicacy is already apparent. -B.B.
Rich but fresh blackberry fruit with notes of fine roasted spices, chocolate, tar and pepper. Densely packed on the palate, with powerful but fine-grained tannins. This is long and youthful. Needs two more years in the bottle. Drink after 2026.
