Brooding aromas flow from the glass evoking dark purple fruit, mocha, mint, and supple leather. Refined but powerful tannins provide the backbone while black currant, sun -warmed fig, licorice and savory herbs entertain the senses. As the wine gracefully tapers to a close, dark chocolate, cedar, and crushed lavender linger.
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate has a very pretty nose of fragrant earth, red and black currants, black plums and underbrush with hints of cigar box and pencil lead. Medium to full-bodied, it fills the mouth with expressive earth and black fruit flavors, supported by a seamless backbone of ripe tannins and great freshness, finishing long. Anticipated Maturity: 2017-2029
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate, from Staglin's home Rutherford property, is bright and aromatically lifted, with a slightly redder expression of fruit and more floral overtones than the Booth-Bella Oaks. A wine with lovely inner sweetness, finesse and aromatics, the Estate peaks to polish above all else. Historically, this wine has developed very well in bottle. I expect that will be the case here as well.
