Pagliuchi, a mining engineer, met his colleague Jennings Stockton Cox at Daiquiri, Cuba, after the Cuban Independence War (in 1898). “On the sideboard of the mines dining room there was no gin or vermouth, all they could find was BACARDÍ® rum, lime, sugar and ice. With this material Mr. Cox made up a cocktail”. Mr. Pagliuchi and Mr. Cox gave the drink the name Daiquiri.
