The brilliant light green and golden straw hue hints at the depth of flavor that unfolds in the glass. Pleasing fruit aromas of pear, green apple, and citrus are framed by an enticing thread of flower blossom and spice. The palate is rich and creamy with uplifted acidity and subtle toast on the finish. This Chardonnay will continue to evolve for up to four years of additional cellaring.
The Bonterra Chardonnay is comprised of grapes selected from a variety of California appellations, and especially features Mendocino County grapes from a variety of elevations, resulting in a rich mouthfeel and bright acidity.
The fruit for this Chardonnay was harvested earlier than in previous years, starting in the middle of August. After being destemmed and pressed it was aged in a mixture of barrels and stainless steel tanks, and 50% malolactic fermentation added depth and viscosity to the wine. This Chardonnay was aged on the lees for six months in 50% American and 50% French oak barrels, resulting in a subtle toast level and a perfect mouthfeel.
