Ceretto’s 2019 Barolo Classico has soft notes of rose petals, cigar box and red forest berrieson the nose. The wine’s well-balanced acidity entices the consumer to take and another sip as this wine is a complete joy on its own by-the-glass or when paired with a myriad of meat or cream-based dishes.
Crafted from a blend of select vineyard sites located within the DOCG Barolo, the idea of combining the unique flavor profiles vinified from the different sub-zones of this admired appellation has always been the original concept of a great Barolo. In Ceretto’s flagship Barolo, two ‘souls’ of the appellation are brought together to provide balance—the gentler side from the hillside vines grown in the Tortonian soils surrounding La Morra and Barolo and the more austere and masculine side, coming from vines grown in the typical Helvetian soil found in Serralunga d’Alba.
Ceretto’s organically-grown Nebbiolo goes through a traditional fermentation with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Alcoholic fermentation is followed by a 20–25 day maceration and malolactic fermentation is performed in 300L French oak barrels immediately following harvest. Upon completion of ML, the wine is then aged for three years in large 20-50HL oak casks. In addition to barrel aging, the wine is also aged for a minimum of one additional year in bottle before release, in accordance with DOCG Barolo aging laws.
A classic! This Barolo opens with aromas of wild cherries, macerated raspberries, drying rose, licorice, clove and subtle earth notes. Refined on the palate, it shows the regal nature of Nebbiolo with its ripe red fruits balanced by savory herbs, tobacco and fine-grained tannins. Drink now–2040. Editors' Choice -J.P.
The organic Ceretto 2019 Barolo has a note of juicy cherry and plum that pops up immediately and ties into a floral note, almost musky, like a tuberose or something comparatively fragrant. The fruit leads, but the wine does offer sensual aromas to follow with soft baking spice, mineral and very fine-grained tannins. A blend of fruit comes from Barolo, Castiglione Falletto, La Morra and Serralunga d'Alba. The style is modern classic. This is a very generous wine. Anticipated Maturity: 2026-2040
